Protection While You Ride

A Metre Matters Petition - Call to Action

Today we are writing on the topic of safety which is obviosuly something that we are very passionate about here at Cyclist Insurance Australia.  This is also particularly relevant given the spate of accidents which have involved cyclists over the past few weeks.

The Amy Gillet Foundation is enrouraging cyclists and all people who know or support cyclists, to sign a national "A Metre Matters" petition to help lobby the Australian Government to amend the Australian Road Rules.  The objectives of this is to make it mandatory for vehicles to allow a minimum overtaking distance of 1 metre when travelling at speeds of 60kms/hr and below and 1.5metres when travelling at speeds greater than 60kms/hr.

Please sign the petition here.

This national petition came about following the tragic death of Lewis Hendey.  Lewis's life was cut short, at the age of 21, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle while riding outside of Launceston in December last year.

45 cyclists were killed on the roads nationally last year - that is 45 too many!  In memory of these 45 cyclists we urge you to get your friends, family and colleagues to sign the petition by April 30th.

We thank you in advance for your support.
